Friday Lyrics

The brilliant NiN this time…
“Right Where It Belongs” from the “With Teeth” album”

See the animal in his cage that you built
Are you sure what side you’re on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it’s all
Right where it belongs

What if everything around you
Isn’t quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the world’s inside of your head
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you’re really all alone?
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can’t find the woods
While you’re hiding in the trees

What if everything around you
Isn’t quite as it seems?
What if all the world you used to know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

Friday Lyrics

I first fell in love with the music of Jimi Hendrix at the tender age of 11. I don’t remember who turned me on to his musical output, but it changed my life. I had just started playing guitar with my Toys’r'us battery powered guitar, and it was a real inspiration to hear his playing. I also, the same year, started reading “‘scuse me while I kiss the sky” a biography of Hendrix. The only part of this book that still sticks in my brain is when Hendrix stated that he wanted to make his guitar “sound like angels”. It’s a goal I still want to achieve.
This track can be found on various Hendrix live albums, of which the Woodstock album has the best version, in my opinion:

Izabella
Hey Izabella
Girl, I’m holding you in my dreams every night.
Yeah, but you know good well baby,
You know we got this war to fight.
Well, I’m calling you under fire
Well, I hope you’re receiving me all right.

Hey, Izabella
Girl, I’m fightin’ this war for the children and you
Yeah, yeah, yeah, baby!
All this blood is for the world of you.
All your love!
So I hope you save your love, baby
Then I know the fightin’ is true.

sans computer

Bit of a fun week here in NukeHali Land, starting with Saturday…
Decided to try and get things a bit more organised in the basement. Mainly the spare room that is full of junk. That quickly descended into me finding useful stuff and moving it into my office. As per usual music was playing on the computer to help with the work. But then it started cutting out. I checked all the cables, and it turned out the Firewire cable for the Presonus Firepod was loose. I reseated the cable, and the music played for another few minutes, and then started cutting out.
So I decided to shut everything down and reseat/reconfigure all the cables, just to make sure that nothing was causing any thing else to become unplugged. I powered it all back on, and there was no sound at all form the Firepod. I reseated the cables, same thing, I tried a different cable, same thing… I tried the front Firewire port, still nothing. So I decided to try the external hard drive in the same ports. The rear FW port did nothing, but the front worked OK. I did this cable swapping for about an hour and then decided it was time to take the computer in for a repair, and later in the day decided to drop the Firepod off for repair as well.
So I have now been without a computer for 5 days, and it’s starting to show. I didn’t realise how much time I spend on the machine. When Kirsty is watching TV, I would go through and surf a bit, play a quick game of Lux, chat with people, watch videos, work on music, etc… Now that that option is not there I’m lost. I can still play drums and guitar, maybe even learn some new music, but there are times wen I just want to sit and click the mouse button, not really thinking about anything in particular. These times normally happen at night, after work.
So for the next few days, at least, I’ll be trying to read a few of the books I have and working on some guitar work, energy permitting…

Friday Lyrics

The Stooges “Fun House”

Callin’ from the fun house with my song.
We been separated baby far too long.
Callin’ all you whoop-de pretty things.
Shinin’ in your freedom come and be my rings.
Hold me tight — callin’ from the fun house.
Hold me tight — callin’ from the fun house.
Yeah, i came to play and i mean to play around.
Yeah, i came to play and i mean to play real good.
Yeah, i came to play.
Little baby girlie, little baby boy.
Cover me with lovin’ in a bundle o’ joy.
Do i care to show you what i’m dreamin’ of.
Do i dare to whoop ya with my love.
Every little baby knows just what i mean livin’ in division in a shiftin’ scene.
Hold me tight — callin’ from the fun house.
Hold me tight — callin’ from the fun house.
Yeah, i came to play.
I came to play.
We been separated.
We been separated.
A little too long.
Yeah, i came to play.
Yeah, fun house boy will steal your heart away.
Yeah, fun house boy will steal your heart away.
Steal.
I came to play.
I came to play.
I came to play… baby.
Yeah, i came to play.
I came to play

Friday Lyrics

The Cure “Stop Dead”
One of their best songs, with a nice, short lyric.

Let me forget
Let me forget
Or let me go let me go
I’ll keep it quiet as a whisper
I’ll keep it low low low
Never
The biggest word i ever heard
Stop dead
Stop dead
You’re getting too close
Before you even opened your eyes
I moved about a million ways
I killed about a million people
And filled about half a day
Before you even opened your eyes
You had to have to ask me who
I love it
I mean you

My face was in your hands
You looked into my eyes
You said i tasted right
And swallowed me alive
